Chava Pressburger – Impression in Paper
Kultur- und Begegnungszentrum Ariowitsch-Haus e.V.
Hinrichsenstraße 14
04105 Leipzig
23.05.2018 - 22.08.2018
The oevre of Chava Pressburger (*1930), a Czech-Israeli painter and paper artist, is strongly influenced by her life experiences such as the loss of her brother, Petr Ginz, who was murdered in Auschwitz. As a survivor of the Shoah she emigrated in 1948 from Prague to Israel, where sue established herself as an internationally recognised artists.
A prominent role in the work of the artist plays the handmade paper, which is shown in the Ariowitsch-House. The artistic process of this work begins with the collection of suitable plants, which are later cleaned, cooked and grated into individual fibers. The resulting pulp molds Pressburger into an image carrier of her thoughts.
During this process, the artist has the possibility to deal with her painful memories of the Shoah. In addition, Chava Pressburger attempts – with the help of her art – to implement feelings that can not be described in words, such as the human suffering and hatred with which we are confronted again today in times of terror.
